A couple of weekends ago, I had to opportunity to get away for a girls’ trip. It was such a fun weekend away with lots of laughs and great food! Good for the soul!
When we were enjoying breakfast, I noticed something. Instead of the usual cream or milk, a couple of my girlfriends were stirring protein shakes into their cups. “Gotta get my protein in!” one of them said, stirring her cup of protein-shake infused coffee. Meanwhile, I was savoring my usual splash of half-and-half, wondering: Is this really necessary?
There’s no doubt about it—protein is having a moment. From protein shakes to collagen-laced lattes, everyone seems to be hyper-focused on getting enough. And as we age, protein does become more important. But do we really need to replace our morning coffee creamer with a supplement to hit our goals?
