What's In Season- October
October is the perfect time to start adding seasonal fall favorites to your kitchen with cozy foods like sweet potatoes, pumpkins, and turnips while embracing the cold weather change.
As we ease back into a routine, October is the perfect time to treat yourself to better health while enjoying the comforting flavors of the fall harvest—like butternut squash, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, and kale. I’m excited to start adding these seasonal favorites to my meals.
The cooler weather (I guess I can say it's "cool-ish" in Houston) also brings cozy, nourishing meals, and this is a great time to focus on your health. Plus, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and National Seafood Month, making it a perfect time to prioritize your health and nourish your body from the inside out by incorporating nutrient-rich fall produce.
Use this list for your next trip to the store or farmer's market to enjoy the best fall produce and make mindful, health-boosting choices!
Salmon with Sweet Potato Salsa
Salmon is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, a type of fat that is beneficial for both brain and heart health. Sweet potatoes are full of immune-boosting antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins and minerals like vitamins A and C.
Warm Fall Lentil Salad with Butternut Squash & Goat Cheese
Lentils are a great source of plant-based protein and fiber. One cup of butternut squash has 297% of your daily needs of Vitamin A as well as 48% of your daily needs of Vitamin C.
Happy Cooking!
