What's In Season - July
Let's talk about what’s on your plate with all the sunshine, celebrations, farmers’ markets, and backyard picnics happening this month. July is the peak of summer produce!
July is the heart of summer, and I love being outside this time of year. Well, all year long, actually. It’s always a goal of mine to soak up as much sunshine and fresh air as I can—but being from Houston, that can get a little tricky in the coming months! Still, as a native Houstonian, former lifeguard, and summer birthday gal, I don’t mind a little heat! There’s nothing better to me than enjoying a long summer evening outside with family and friends, lingering at the table as the daylight stretches all the way to 9 p.m. (And yes—I know my family and friends are probably laughing right now because I haven’t mentioned the mosquitoes or the humidity!)
Ok, so let's talk about what’s on your plate with all the sunshine, celebrations, farmers’ markets, and backyard picnics happening this month. July is the peak of summer produce, and it’s truly the season for juicy tomatoes, sweet berries and cherries, crisp cucumbers, okra, summer squash—and of course, zucchini! This colorful bounty is not only delicious but also packed with nutrients that support overall health.
I always feel extra inspired in the summer—cooking feels simpler, lighter, and more joyful. Whether you’re grilling, assembling a picnic, or throwing together a no-cook salad, seasonal produce makes it easy to create meals that are nourishing, budget-friendly, and full of flavor.
It’s the perfect time to embrace the Mediterranean way of eating: fresh, colorful, and meant to be shared. So grab your market tote, head outside, and let July’s peak produce inspire your plate this month!
Are you ready for the 4th of July? We are here to help with some of our favorite recipes:
4th of July Greek Yogurt Bark with Berries
This Greek Yogurt Bark with Berries makes for a light dessert that the whole family will love! It’s made so simply with frozen full-fat Greek yogurt that has been lightly sweetened with maple syrup and mixed with fresh summer berries and mini chocolate chips. Keep it in your freezer for up to 3 months for a grab-and-go healthy dessert option.
Chopped Summer Salad with Strawberries, Avocado, Corn and Asparagus
We are ready for summer over here and this salad is summer in a bowl! It’s quick and easy to throw together and full of summer flavor. To make this a meal, try adding grilled chicken or shrimp and adding your favorite nut – we recommend pecans with this one.
Mediterranean Fruit Salad with Mint
This Mediterranean Fruit Salad with Mint is a refreshing addition to any meal. This salad calls for berries, cantaloupe, grapes, and a little lime. You can get creative and add in your favorite fruit too!
Peach Tomato Caprese
You really don’t need a recipe for this wonderful salad which I like to call “Summer in a bowl”. You can place it in a bowl or on a serving platter. Add as much or as little of an ingredient as you like. There is no right or wrong answer!
Grilled Fajita Kebabs
These fajita kebabs are loaded with flavor and nutrients making it one of my favorite Mexican staples. I love pairing chicken and shrimp with a variety of vegetables, and this is a great way to do it.
Watermelon and Feta Salad with Kalamata Olive Vinaigrette
This easy, refreshing watermelon and feta salad is perfect for summer. Watermelon, feta and arugula is a classic summer combination but to change things up a bit we added a Kalamata olive dressing on top.
Happy Cooking!
