What I'm Bringing Home From the Farmers' Market This Month
What's In Season - August
I don’t know about you, but every time I go to the Farmers’ Market, I tell myself I’m just going to grab a few things.
Then I spot the tomatoes. The peaches smell amazing. Someone is handing out samples of sweet corn. And before I know it, I’ve somehow convinced myself that I need three bunches of basil because, “I’ll definitely use it.”
Honestly...I wouldn’t have it any other way.
One of my favorite things about shopping this time of year is letting the season decide what’s on the menu. Instead of starting with a recipe, I start with what’s fresh, what’s local, and what simply looks too good to leave behind. Somehow, those always end up being some of my favorite meals.
This week also happens to be National Farmers Market Week, so I thought it would be fun to turn it into a little challenge.
Take $40 to your local Farmers’ Market and see how many meals you can build from what’s in season. Skip the detailed grocery list for just one trip. Pick up the vegetables and fruit that catch your eye, bring home a handful of fresh herbs, and let those ingredients inspire the rest of your week.
You might be surprised by how far seasonal ingredients can go.
In fact, that’s exactly what inspired this month’s meal plan. Coming in just a couple of days, our August Farmers’ Market Meal Plan is built around many of these seasonal favorites to help you turn your market haul into simple, flavorful Mediterranean-inspired meals all week long.
