Mediterranean Smashed Turkey Tacos
If you’ve been anywhere near social media lately, you’ve probably seen the smash taco trend — tortillas pressed thin with seasoned meat and cooked until crispy and golden in a hot skillet. It’s quick, it’s satisfying, and it’s fun.
Naturally, I had to make it Mediterranean.
These Mediterranean Smash Turkey Tacos take everything we love about the trend and layer in the flavors and principles of the Mediterranean diet. Instead of higher-fat ground beef, we use lean ground turkey seasoned with garlic, oregano, and paprika. Instead of heavy toppings, we add a bright tomato-cucumber salad with fresh parsley, lemon, olive oil, and a sprinkle of feta. And we serve it all on whole-grain corn tortillas for extra fiber and whole-grain goodness. And the best part, everyone at my house loved them!
Lean turkey provides protein with less saturated fat, while the fresh vegetables add fiber, antioxidants, and hydration. The olive oil and feta bring heart-healthy fats and flavor, and a dollop of tzatziki ties everything together. It’s a beautiful example of layering in Mediterranean cooking— protein, vegetables, healthy fats, and whole grains — in one handheld meal.
And don’t forget to make extra tomato-cucumber salad. It’s delicious tucked into wraps, spooned over grilled chicken or salmon, added to grain bowls, or served alongside eggs for breakfast. Having that ready in the fridge makes Mediterranean-style meals easier all week long.
